 Autumn by the Sea (Otoño en la Mar, also known as "Profundidad Marina I")

"Autumn by the Sea” is a poignant textile work that serves as a visual allegory of memory and childhood innocence, inspired by a poem by the artist Constantino Laura himself. The composition is fragmented into geometric planes and dense textures, simulating the “autumn mist” filtering through a window, enveloping memories of an afternoon at the beach.

From a base of charcoal and smoky grays, dramatic contrasts of fiery orange and gold emerge, evoking the warmth of the Andean horizon and the tenderness of childhood memories. The duality of the ocelli intensely watches over the scene: one large, concentric one in turquoise and deep blue on the right, and another in profile in vivid orange and black on the left, personifying the interconnected gazes described in the poem: the innocence of a child and the protective gaze of his mother as she walks along the beach of time.

With the masterful command of relief and color transition characteristic of the Laura technique, the piece acquires a tactile three-dimensionality that invites a unique sensory experience. Every thread, every stitch, is a testament to Constantino Laura’s refined craftsmanship.
